This girl does tatting!

Have you ever heard of tatting?

Tatting is a lost art that's in between crochet and Lace making. 

It's usually used for edging on handkerchiefs. Its a form of knotting with thread.

It's made with some crochet thread and a tatting shuttle.

Have you heard of tatting before? 

Always be open to try something new :)

This is Zuzu.

She's an adorable little pooch that I'm staying with right now. 

She likes to take walks, cuddle and most of all watch tv.

Boy does she like watching the muppets! 

I tried taking some photos of her today but she's a quick little girl!

And so the lesson has been learned. It's not easy taking photos of dogs.

Best to just cuddle with them :)

What we have been working on...

Hello my pretties! 

So I'm here today to show you what I have been up to for the past week here in North Bay!

My mother is an artist (Michele Karch Ackerman). She currently has a residence at the North Bay hospital for her to work on her latest art show that will be showing at The Kennedy gallery here in North Bay in about two years time.

This show is inspired by Tuberculosis sanatoriums and how people had to stay in rooms with brown hospital curtains to recover.  So my mother decided to make one large hospital curtain made out of hundreds of vintage handkerchiefs as a healing process. 

Most of which are tatted. 

The idea is occupational therapy, love and kindness.

So she has been spending her days at the hospital piecing together this curtain and sewing it together.

the simple things make me the happiest

Its the simple things that make Astrid happy in life....

this girls a beach bum!

I never considered myself a beach kinda girl.

Id go with some friends and swim and then go home. I never got the full beach experience till I came here.

I have been to lakes and if ever a beach, it was incredibly busy.

A short 5 minute walk from where I'm living right now is a beach. Long white sands with waves and rocks and sun so bright you glow.

I have walked to this beach at least once a day since I came here.

a natural life

Living in the country far away from busy streets, chattering people and bustling cars.. I get a lot of time to see the small things in life...

 

Its the little things that count in life.

I'm a country girl and live to embrace it.

A girl named Aurelia

She goes to the beach to clear her mind. 

She plunges into the water and lets the cool waves envelop her.

She lets her mind wander as she lets the sand seep between her toes.

She loves the beach.

Yesterday I had the joy of photographing a friend at the beach. 

Aurelia is a wonderful girl who I am currently staying with for two weeks in North Bay at her wonderfully sweet house. 

We walked to the beach last night as the sun was setting at the hour of 8 pm. She was daring enough to dive into the freezing water and I asked to take some pictures.. it went on from there as one of my favourite photo shoots to date.

I plan on having a photo shoot a day and letting my creative feelings run wild in these two weeks.

Learned how to make sushi, listened to Bishop Allen, went to the beach, had a photo shoot, got a dress, watched Adventure Time. This was my day ♥

a dress from paris

My dear godmother Caren just came home from Paris! 

I had the joy of seeing her yesterday and hearing all about her amazing trip and opening some goodies she came home with for me.

To my surprise I opened one of two simply beautiful vintage dresses! 

Holy kitten caboodle! 

I adore it. No words to descried my feelings towards these dresses.

I have photos of the adorable 80s peter pan collar dress today!

It's short, fun, flirty and I have officially named it my parisian dress Glinda *wink*.
